ADHD Entrepreneur Burnout Recovery

‘Burnout’ seems to be a popular buzzword nowadays, however, when it comes to having ADHD, the cycles of burnout are often far more intense and frequent.

Which is why I wanted to discuss ADHD entrepreneur burnout recovery and let you in on the secrets that have helped me to break out of those dreaded ADHD burnout cycles. Let’s get into it!

Identify the Root Cause of Your Burnout

The first step in ADHD entrepreneur burnout recovery is to find out why the burnout occurred in the first place.

Taking time to identify the root cause of your burnout can be especially beneficial in knowing the right steps to overcome it.

Maybe you said ‘yes’ to too many projects or perhaps you're prioritising tasks in your business that aren’t leading to results.

Whatever it is, write it down and list ways that you can stop this from occurring again.

Come Back To Your “Why”

Sometimes, we can get so caught up in our analytics or our business growth that we completely forget about the reason we started our business in the first place.

Many of us start our businesses to:

  • Be able to spend more time with our family

  • Not have to work in a stressful work environment

  • Have more freedom

Yet we can lose sight of these things once we start getting busy.

So, this is your sign to realign with your ‘why’ and ask yourself this: “Is my current business set up in a way that supports my why?”

Outsource Tasks

When we meet with clients, a lot of them come to us because they are struggling so much with ADHD burnout that outsourcing tasks is their only option to overcome it.

And honestly, it’s so great to see the transformation that happens within not only their business but their energy too!

When you outsource tasks to a virtual assistant, you free up mental space to be able to work on other things within your business (that you like to do).

It also means you can get more done in a day and if you are having a bad day, you can take time to rest knowing that your virtual assistant can take the reins.

Our virtual assistants can also help you with body doubling sessions to keep you motivated and they can even take personal errands off of your to-do list.

We have helped over 100 ADHD business owners get up to £66,000 per year worth of funding through the Access to Work programme.

This a government programme where they provide people with mental and physical health conditions with funding to help them stay in work.

You do not need an official ADHD diagnosis to apply and trust me, there isn’t a catch!

Not only have I gone through the process myself, but we’ve helped so many business owners do the same.

Our free mini-course breaks down the entire process so you can apply in just 30 minutes!

Set New Goals

As ADHDers, we thrive when we set new goals and achieve them, which makes setting new goals one of the best strategies in ADHD entrepreneur burnout recovery.

The dopamine hit that we receive from achieving these goals can help inspire and motivate us to keep going.

Oh, and a little reward for our hard work never goes amiss!

Start Implementing Boundaries

The best thing that you can do for your business (and your sanity) is to start implementing boundaries.

This can be as simple as deciding not to take any calls after 5 PM or having 30 minutes every morning to make your favourite drink and spend some time alone.

It can also look like saying ‘no’ to more opportunities or enforcing boundaries with clients.

Think of it like this: you have to be able to fill up your own cup first before you can pour out to others.

Do a Social Media Detox

The content that we consume has a dramatic impact on how we show up throughout our day.

If we’re constantly doom scrolling on LinkedIn or Instagram and only reading about other people’s successes, it can worsen our symptoms of overwhelm and imposter syndrome.

So a social media detox may be a necessary step in your ADHD entrepreneur burnout recovery process. Here’s how to conduct one effectively:

Firstly, remember that social media isn’t real. You never know the struggles that somebody is facing and a lot of the time, we only see the best parts of somebody’s life.

Secondly, if you notice these apps affecting your mental health, take some time away from them. Delete the apps completely if you can. (You can always hire a social media virtual assistant to post for you!).

When you come back, do a little cleanse and unfollow any accounts that make you feel a negative way.

Just Take a Break

If you’ve exhausted all of the above options and you’re still feeling burnt out, sometimes the only solution is to actually take a break.

Expecting yourself to give 100% every single day is the recipe for burnout and sometimes our bodies just need to rest.

So book that day off and leave your laptop at home!
